Marcus Raboy

Marcus Raboy’s career has been nothing short of spectacular. His work might best be described as committed – committed to visual storytelling, committed to comedy, and com- mitted to representing and communicating with real people. Visually his style takes many forms, ranging from sensual and shadowy to buoyant and vibrant.

He has embraced a wide range of genres, including music videos, commercials, television and film. With each project, he has managed to individually hone his approach – bringing unique- ness to each and every project, while also challenging himself as a director. Raboy’s career began with an immediately successful jaunt into music video directing. His first video, O.P.P. for Naughty By Nature went double platinum and the video won a Billboard award for Best Video and New Artist. After that, he continued directing videos for hip-hop artists - greatly influencing the industry by raising the bar and redefining the standards within the genre.

From there he went on to direct videos for such influential artists as Mary J. Blige, Dixie Chicks and Santana. In fact, his video for Santana’s Smooth, featuring Rob Thomas, helped relaunch Carlos Santana as a musical force. Recently he has directed "Each Tear" for Mary J. Blige, "Beautiful Girls" for Sean Kingston, "Supastar" for Floetry featuring Common, and Rihanna’s "If It’s Lovin." His most recent video gave him the challenge of shooting in 3D, one of the very first music videos ever to do so, for Shakira's 2010 World Cup Theme "Waka Waka (Time for Africa)" which has already amassed over 100 million youtube views in just over one month. Raboy’s credits as a commercial director have been equally influential. He has directed spots for Honda, McDonald's, Vans, Orlando Jones Show, Reebok, Cannondale, Amica, AIM Mutual Funds, Nintendo and Chrysler to name a few. His unique combination of humor, compassion, and hope is readily apparent in his diverse assortment of commercial work.

Television and film have not been excluded from Raboy’s extensive repertoire. He directed an episode of John Ridley’s series Platinum for UPN and was called upon by Ice Cube to direct the third installment of the Friday series, Friday After Next. He is currently working on another Newline feature, Whitebread.

Raboy grew up in New York and attended New York University. He lives in Los Angeles, California.
